President of Liz Moore & Associates in Williamsburg

Home and family
Williamsburg; husband Roger, 17-year-old son Grayson and an Airedale Terrier, Winston.
What you do in your job
Oversee the operations of a boutique real estate brokerage; marketing, technology and sales management.
Education
BA from University of California at Berkeley.
Career progression
I was licensed in real estate right out of college and was in sales for five years prior to entering management  at 26. I was fortunate to have found my passion. I progressed from managing broker to general manager to president and owner with my first company and then we sold to a larger, regional firm. After several years with that company, I opened Liz Moore & Associates.
Proudest business achievement
There is nothing more rewarding than coaching an agent to become successful in this business; I have had that opportunity many times with some talented people.
Biggest factor in your success
I have a knack for hiring great people. And I’m a big believer in goal-setting.
Professional activities
I serve on several committees for both the Williamsburg Area Association of Realtors and the Virginia Peninsula Association of Realtors.
Volunteer activities
Board of Advisors for Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters.
How do you balance your time?
It can be challenging, but making family time a priority is important to me. I get to work early. I focus by maximizing productivity during the day. I don’t feel guilty when I leave at 5 p.m. to be home for dinner and time with my family.
Biggest obstacles you have faced
I have been very fortunate.  Obviously, there are daily challenges for any businesswoman, but I try to look for the silver lining in the cloud.  In the past several years, for instance, it would be easiest to focus on the sluggish real estate market; however, the vacuum created by that market has created new opportunities.  As competitors have pulled back their marketing budgets, we have been able to fill that space, as well as hire agents who are disenchanted with their existing companies.  The result has been a momentum that will have a great payoff as the market begins its recovery.
How have you overcome challenges?
I try to always look for the opportunity in every challenge.
Professional goal in five years
My goal is to continue to grow our market share in the Peninsula and Williamsburg markets. I have no desire to be the biggest brokerage; rather, it is far more important to me to have the best agents in the local market, maximizing their potential, and delivering the most exceptional client experience possible.
Advice for women
Goal- setting and planning are essential. Focus on maximizing your strengths instead of shoring up weaknesses.
Downtime
I don’t have much, but when I do I enjoy reading and spending time with my family.
What gets under your skin?
Negative people.
