Philanthropic adviser, Waypoint Advisors
At work
At Waypoint Advisors, I assist families at all stages of the philanthropic process, from initial planning to the implementation and administration of charitable trusts and private foundations. Because Waypoint is a small firm, everyone wears many hats, so I have compliance and marketing responsibilities as well. I joined Waypoint Advisors in 2005 after serving as vice president in the Charitable Services Group at Wachovia Bank in Atlanta.
Home and family
I live in Virginia Beach with my English Setter, Deacon, and have lots of family nearby including my mother, sister, brother and sister-in-law, and nieces.
Volunteer activities
Future of Hampton Roads, board member; United Way of South Hampton Roads Community Funding Committee, member and co-chair of Health Impact Panel; Camp Foundation, board member; Norfolk Academy Alumni Association, board member; Magnolia Circle of The King's Daughters, member.
Proudest work accomplishment
Working with families to help them identify their shared values and philanthropic goals, and then assisting them in the process to realize those goals.
Balancing time
I set priorities, know my own limits and am lucky enough to work for a firm that encourages and fully supports its employees' community and volunteer activities.
Downtime
There is not much better than an afternoon spent on the beach with a good book. When the weather isn't nice enough for that, I can usually be found spending time with friends and family, and cheering on the Demon Deacons.
Professional goal in five years
To continue working with individuals and families who share a common goal of improving the communities in which they live.
Biggest success factor
Not being afraid to ask questions or learn something new.
The one thing I'd change about Hampton Roads
For our region's leaders and elected officials to truly act together to attract business and address the issues facing the region as a whole. This is a great area to live in, but we need to do all that we can to ensure that young professionals think so for years to come.
Dream dinner party guest list
Can I just invite myself to a dinner party hosted by Will Arnett and Amy Poehler?
What gets under your skin?
When people say they're going to do something and then don't do it.
