Deborah H. Butler

Posted: May 4, 2012

In the male-dominated railroad industry, Deb Butler is a fresh voice and face.

A graduate of Agnes Scott College with a degree in English literature, Butler is executive vice president of planning and chief information officer for rail conglomerate Norfolk Southern Corp.

She can be seen at industry events and earnings conferences, explaining the company's capital investments and long-term strategy. She's on the starting lineup, which includes Chairman and CEO Wick Moorman.

Butler is the second woman to reach the executive vice president level with Norfolk Southern.

The first was Kathryn B. McQuade, who was executive vice president of planning and chief information officer from 2004 to 2007.

Butler was vice president of customer service of Norfolk Southern Railway Co. from July 1, 2004, to June 1, 2007.

She joined Norfolk Southern in 1978 as a customer account auditor. She was named assistant vice president of transportation customer services in 2000 and vice president of customer service in 2002.
