Economic development

Leonard Sledge, director of economic development for the College of William and Mary, has been named Hampton's director of economic development, effective June 17.

Sledge is currently serving as an economic development board member for the city. At William and Mary, he has facilitated public-private-university partnerships.

Robin Witt Gregory has joined Bank of Hampton Roads as manager of the East Bank Financial Center in Norfolk. Gregory has 20 years of banking experience in the region.




Prior to joining BHR, she was a personal banker at SunTrust Bank in Norfolk since 2005. At SunTrust, she received a Stellar Award for Service every year for the past seven years.

From 1996 to 2005, she was a customer service manager at Bank of America in Norfolk. Before that, she was a teller at First Union National Bank in Norfolk.

Kim Powers has been named chief executive officer of the Peninsula Housing & Builders Association. Powers previously worked as a senior account executive with the Tidewater Builders Association. Prior to working with TBA, she was PHBA's special events director, as well as the organization's membership director.

She holds a bachelor of science degree in business administration from New Hampshire College.

Elliot Gruber has been name president and CEO of the Mariners' Museum in Newport News.

He assumes the reins as the museum launches the first phase of a major initiative, the Family Exploration Gallery. In addition to the gallery, planned to open in several phases, Gruber will lead fundraising efforts for the continued support of the $30 million USS Monitor Center, which opened in 2007.

Dr. Sivaram Arepalli has joined the National Institute of Aerospace as vice president of Education and Outreach. Arepalli will direct NIA's graduate education program, which offers master's and doctoral degrees in the fields of engineering and science through its university partners.

Michael Morello joined ValueOptions as vice president of Compensation and Benefits.
Most recently, he was director of compensation for Dollar Tree Stores. Before that, he was corporate vice president, executive compensation, for New York Life Insurance. He is a member of World at Work and Society of Human Resource Management.
Morello has more than 15 years of compensation and benefits experience at an executive level and holds a master’s of human resources management from Rutgers University.
