Thomas M. Slaughter PE, a Newport News city employee, has been awarded the 2012 Governor's Transportation Safety Award for Lifetime Safety Achievement.

For more than 40 years, Slaughter has been an advocate for transportation safety. Beginning as a summer job in 1971 prior to his senior year at Virginia Tech and continuing today, he has been working to make public roadways safer for motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists.

Robert S. "Bob" Zuckerman, attorney, has joined Williams Mullen as of counsel. Zuckerman will practice in the firm's Virginia Beach office and join its Maritime practice team.

He has more than 35 years of experience in the maritime industry, most recently as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary of Horizon Lines.

Marathon Consulting in Virginia Beach announced these promotions to the position of team leader:

Scott Clevenger has more than four years with Marathon and has assisted numerous clients with website and e-commerce development services. He has more than 14 years of web design and development experience.

Alan Sutton has more than three years with Marathon and helps clients with business analysis and project management services. He has more than 28 years of experience as a business analyst, project manager and systems manager.

Shipbuilding

Marty Erdossy has been appointed corporate director of customer relations for the Newport News Shipbuilding division of Huntington Ingalls Industries.

Erdossy is responsible for liaising with the U.S. Navy, HII's Washington, D.C., office and aircraft carrier programs at NNS to respond to the Navy's requirements and ensure communication and information flow. Erdossy will be based in Washington, D.C., and report to Marty Chanik, HII corporate vice president of customer relations.

Museums

Alison Byrne is the new director of exhibitions and education at the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art in Virginia Beach.

Byrne, previously the curator of education at MOCA, has been with the museum since 2002. She will be responsible for exhibition design and execution, educational program curricula and creation of relationships both within the local community and the national museum community. She will oversee the associate curator, the registrar/preparator, curator of education, and gallery/youth program manager.

Government

John Boles has been named special agent in charge of the FBI's Norfolk Division.

He most recently was a special assistant to the National Security Branch executive assistant director and section chief of the NSB Executive Staff Section.

He became a special agent in 1995 assigned to the Sacramento Division working criminal violations including fugitives, white collar, cyber, violent crimes, narcotics, terrorism and crimes against children. He also was a sniper team leader and special weapons and tactics operator.

Missy Schmidt is the new director of marketing for xTuple, a Norfolk firm that provides commercial open source business management software.

Schmidt was previously vice president of strategic communication and marketing for the Hampton Roads Partnership. She serves on the board of directors of the Hampton Roads chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.
