Alison Byrne is the new director of exhibitions and education at the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art in Virginia Beach.

Byrne, previously the curator of education at MOCA, has been with the museum since 2002. She will be responsible for exhibition design and execution, educational program curricula and creation of relationships both within the local community and the national museum community. She will oversee the associate curator, the registrar/preparator, curator of education, and gallery/youth program manager.

Government

John Boles has been named special agent in charge of the FBI's Norfolk Division.

He most recently was a special assistant to the National Security Branch executive assistant director and section chief of the NSB Executive Staff Section.

He became a special agent in 1995 assigned to the Sacramento Division working criminal violations including fugitives, white collar, cyber, violent crimes, narcotics, terrorism and crimes against children. He also was a sniper team leader and special weapons and tactics operator.

Missy Schmidt is the new director of marketing for xTuple, a Norfolk firm that provides commercial open source business management software.

Schmidt was previously vice president of strategic communication and marketing for the Hampton Roads Partnership. She serves on the board of directors of the Hampton Roads chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.

Huntington Ingalls Industries has announced that Ron Murray has been promoted to vice president of quality and process excellence for the company's Newport News Shipbuilding division.

Murray will oversee the planning, development and enforcement of quality and continuous improvement programs across the shipyard.

Education

Tidewater Community College President Deborah M. DiCroce has announced new provosts to head the college's Portsmouth and Norfolk campuses.

Marvin L. Bright assumes leadership Feb. 1 for the Norfolk campus, which enrolls more than 14,500 students each year. His installation ceremony will take place in the spring.

Michelle W. Woodhouse recently took the reins at the Fred W. Beazley Portsmouth campus, which enrolls more than 12,000 students annually. She will be officially installed at a ceremony on Feb. 3.

Jessica M. Salazar has been appointed managing director by Northwestern Mutual in Virginia Beach. She has been associated with Northwestern Mutual since 2005. Her duties and responsibilities include recruiting and training financial representatives, managing the office and selling financial service products.

Tidewater Community College made the following announcements:

James P. Toscano has been appointed vice president for institutional advancement.

With more than nine years of experience in community and government relations, communications and marketing, Toscano was most recently vice president for public affairs and communications and chief communications officer for Hampton Roads Transit. He also was legislative director for Bob McDonnell when he was the delegate for the 84th District of Virginia.

Jeffrey S. Creekmore has joined Heritage Bank as a senior vice president and commercial loan officer on the commercial lending team. Creekmore worked 17 years with the Bank of Hampton Roads, most recently as the bank's Chesapeake city executive, and prior to that as Norfolk city executive. Creekmore is a graduate of Norfolk Collegiate School, James Madison University and the Virginia Bankers School of Bank Management. He served on the Norfolk Collegiate School alumni board from 2004 to 2010 and as president from 2008 to 2010.

Robert M. Palmer MD has joined Eastern Virginia Medical School as professor of internal medicine and director of the EVMS Glennan Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology.

Palmer, a former head of geriatrics at the Cleveland Clinic, comes to the school from the University of Pittsburgh, where he was the clinical director of geriatric medicine and gerontology and vice chair of quality improvement and patient safety in the department of Medicine.
