Karen Meyers has joined the Virginia Department of Transportation as the public affairs specialist for the Hampton Roads District. She has more than 14 years of experience in public relations.

She will serve as special assistant and adviser to Frank Fabian, special projects manager on projects of regional significance. She will be responsible for special project outreach including the Elizabeth River Tunnels Project and the Route 460 Improvement Project.

Harvey Bryant announces the following additions to the Virginia Beach Commonwealth's Attorney's Office:

 

Tanja M. Korpi was hired as a senior assistant commonwealth's attorney. Korpi received her bachelor's degree and her juris doctor from the College of William and Mary. She previously was a prosecutor in the Norfolk Commonwealth's Attorney's Office and has experience at the consulting firm of Booz Allen Hamilton in Washington, D.C.

Korpi is assigned to the Second Precinct Prosecution Team.

Thomas M. Slaughter PE, a Newport News city employee, has been awarded the 2012 Governor's Transportation Safety Award for Lifetime Safety Achievement.

For more than 40 years, Slaughter has been an advocate for transportation safety. Beginning as a summer job in 1971 prior to his senior year at Virginia Tech and continuing today, he has been working to make public roadways safer for motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists.
