Dean G. Martin joined Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer's Virginia Beach office as a sales and leasing associate in the Retail Services Group. Previously, Martin was a commercial real estate associate at The Katsias Co. for three years where he specialized in retail and office sales, leasing and tenant representation.

Martin is a Virginia Beach native and a graduate of James Madison University.

Elizabeth Hamilton, CPA, joined the Norfolk-based assurance, tax and business advisory firm McPhillips, Roberts and Deans PLC.

Hamilton works in the firm's tax practice as a staff accountant. She earned a bachelor's in business administration and a master's in accounting from Old Dominion University. Hamilton has more than four years of accounting experience and for the past two years, her focus has been in the health care industry.

Willcox Savage added two new attorneys to the firm:

Joseph B. Allen practices in the corporate, securities and finance group and is based in the Norfolk office. Allen was previously with Hartman Underhill & Brubaker in Pennsylvania. He is a 2012 graduate of the College of William and Mary School of Law. He received a bachelor's from William and Mary in 2009.

Betty Jo Roberts is the new execuive director of home security and smart home marketing for Cox Communications.

She now leads all marketing efforts for Cox's home security and smart home business nationwide.

Roberts began her career with Cox in 2000 in Atlanta as marketing communications manager for Cox and five years later came to Virginia as marketing director for Cox Business.

Lenny Burns has joined Pembroke Commercial Realty as vice president of leasing and sales. Burns has been working in the industry since 1989. He has a bachelor's in marketing from Barton College and was most recently employed with Cushman & Wakefield/Thalhimer.

Cynthia Romero, MD, a member of the Eastern Virginia Medical School Class of 1993, will return to EVMS to lead the M. Foscue Brock Institute for Community and Global Health. Romero will replace Karen Remley, founding director of the institute.

Romero, a Hampton Roads native, earned her undergraduate degree in psychology at the University of Virginia prior to enrolling at EVMS, where she graduated with a medical degree in 1993. She completed residency training at the Riverside Family Practice Program in Newport News.

Robert M. Tata was appointed managing partner of Hunton & Williams law firm's Norfolk office. Tata assumes responsibilities from Gregory N. Stillman, who managed the office since it opened in 1979. Tata, a Norfolk native, has been with the firm since September 1989.

Sonal Patel, MD, a board-certified family medicine physician, joined Patient Choice Oceana in Virginia Beach, according to an announcement from Bon Secours Hampton Roads Health System.

Patel received a bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery in India. She performed medical observerships at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur, Ill., and Faxton St. Luke's Hospital in Utica, N.Y. She completed a family medicine residency at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica, N.Y.

Aging services

David Murray is the executive director of the Advance Care Planning Coalition of Eastern Virginia. The Peninsula Agency on Aging Inc. is the lead agency for the coalition.

Also included among the initial partners are Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia, Bay Aging and Eastern Shore Area Agency on Aging. The coalition was formed to expand community awareness and understanding of the benefits of advance care planning for individuals and their families.
