TowneBank Mortgage announced the following additions and promotions in Hampton Roads:

  • Robert C. "Chip" Glover is chief operating officer. Glover has been in the mortgage industry for more than 30 years and will be based in Virginia Beach.

Glover most recently was senior vice president for a community bank in southwest Virginia and northeast Tennessee. For the past 12 years, he has been responsible for overseeing the mortgage lending division, including operations and sales.

Maritime shipping

T. Parker Host Inc. and Host Terminals Inc. created new positions to better oversee operations at both companies.

Robert "Bobby" Scott was promoted to the new position of of vice president of operations at T. Parker Host. Scott has been with the company since 1998 when he joined as a boarding agent in Norfolk.

He will oversee all agency operations as the company grows and expands service in new and existing ports.

Robert L. Samuel joined the Virginia Beach-based law firm of Pender & Coward as a shareholder and chairman of the firm's Workers' Compensation Group. With more than 35 years' experience, he also focuses his practice on civil personal injury litigation.

Christy L. Murphy joined the Norfolk office of the law firm Kaufman & Canoles. Murphy concentrates her practice on the representation of banks, credit unions and other secured and unsecured lenders in commercial litigation. She regularly represents trustees, families and entities in trust and estate litigation.

Murphy received a bachelor's from Old Dominion University and her juris doctor from Regent University School of Law.

Ellen F. Bergren joined the law firm of Vandeventer Black LLP and will be based in Norfolk. Bergren's primary practice will focus on complex commercial litigation and general commercial litigation, as well as creditors' rights and bankruptcy.

Bergren has experience in federal trial and appellate practice, and litigation experience involving products liability, mass tort, insurance and reinsurance defense.

Luke Barton joined 360IT Partners, a Virginia Beach-based IT consulting company that serves all of Hampton Roads, as its new business development director.

Barton has 10 years of experience in management and production and technical development. Previously, he served as the production director for Atlantic Shores Baptist Church.

Mark Mahoney is the new director of domestic maritime business at WR Systems Ltd., a Norfolk-based NAVCOM and maritime technology company.

Sport events

Lauren Carpenter Bland, an Old Dominion University graduate, is executive director of the Hampton Roads Sports Commission and vice president of sports development for the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce.

Bland, who will be responsible for bringing amateur sports to the region, is already working one big event: the Amateur Athletic Union Junior Olympic Games, which will return to Hampton Roads this year, as well as in 2020 and 2025. The Can-Am Police and Fire Games are on the schedule for 2018.

Jeff Parker, CCIM, is director of leasing at Virginia Beach-based Wheeler Real Estate Investment Trust Inc. Parker is responsible for leasing operations of the company's portfolio of commercial assets. The portfolio includes 56 grocery-anchored shopping centers totaling more than 3.6 million square feet of gross leasable area across 13 states.
