![]() This is the ninth year that Inside Business has honored companies in Hampton Roads as the Best Places to Work. And when the economy challenges us, we think it is even more important to see what kinds of things local companies are doing to show they value their employees - their most valuable asset. To be selected for the honor, companies submitted information about their culture, annual turnover, employee satisfaction, fair and equitable treatment, compensation, benefits and employee training opportunities. To be considered, each company had to have a sufficient number of employees respond to an online survey, and the judges considered those results and comments in making their final selections. We also recognize those companies that have over the years earned induction into the Best Places to Work Hall of Fame. This means they were either the top company or within the top 10 companies recognized for two years in a row or received the honor for four years in a row. This year we gave those companies the chance to earn additional recognition, and you'll read about five that have earned the status of being Bronze members of the Hall of Fame. Our hope is that we encourage businesses to look at the things they do for employees and find ideas that might raise the overall performance of their companies and the quality of the workforce in Hampton Roads. – Carol Lichti, Editor of Inside Business |
