Virginia Beach city councilman Glenn Davis is running for a seat in the Virginia House of Delegates.
Davis wants to fill a vacancy in 84th District now that Sal Laquinto has announced he is not running for reelection.
Davis, a Republican, filed the documents to run last Friday.
“Sal surprised a lot of people when he decided not to run for reelection,” Davis said. “That’s what sparked this whole thing.”
Davis’ term on the city council expires in 2016. If he wins a seat in the house, he said, city council would appoint his replacement.
“I pretty much have spent my whole life living in and representing the 84th district,” said Davis, who last year helped the lead the efforts to build an arena in Virgina Beach.
